Multi-Fuel Biomass Boilers
Oddly, we have come to think of biomass as some new source of energy but in reality, biomass has been in use since mankind invented fire. Anything that is organic and once living can be considered to be biomass and of course that includes logs and wood chips. The only difference between a few decades ago and current times is in the way wood is burned in order to prevent harmful CO2 emissions.
For example, Wood Gasification Boilers are extremely efficient and although they can be used alone as a heat source they can also easily be combined with other generators of heat such as solar powered heat systems. One thing which is truly amazing about gasification boilers is that they burn wood at extremely high heats but have an automatic shut off system to prevent over-heating. They are made with corrosion-resistant stainless steel and because of the high heat there are longer periods of time between emptying ashes which makes them relatively maintenance free.
Another multi-fuel heat source which many UK consumers are especially fond is the Wood Chip and Log Boiler which can also use wood chips or logs. Although these do not burn at such high heats as a gasification boiler, they are also environmentally friendly and require less maintenance than traditional log burning wood stoves. Manufactured by Solarfocus, different models are available from those that provide 22kW of energy to those that provide up to 60kW.
Although wood gasification boilers and wood chip and log boilers are two of the top rated multi-fuel biomass boilers, some businesses and homeowners choose to use them in conjunction with other heating methods such as Water Source Heat Pumps. Since there are so many options to choose from that meet the Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme it may be worth looking into using a combination of renewable heat sources to take advantage of greater savings and cash back. Within just a couple of years the systems pay for themselves and everything after that is pure savings. That alone is enough incentive to consider the benefits of multi-fuel biomass boilers and water source heat pumps.
